A false no-record result usually means the wrong office was asked. Pickens County, Alabama keeps Circuit and District cases with the Circuit Clerk in Carrollton, city citations with the city that issued them, probate matters with the Probate Judge, and appeals with the appellate courts, and none of those indexes reaches into the others. No single free website covers every local case. Alabama offers several official routes, including the paid statewide case service and free viewing at the clerk's counter. Ask the clerk when unsure. The Pickens County court docket for a state case starts and ends with that office, so beginning there prevents most dead ends.

Inside a Pickens County Court Docket

Think of an electronic docket as a chronological index of one case. Read the header first. The court, division, case identity, filing date, and status all matter. Together they tell you whether you have the right matter. Party roles count too. A criminal caption names the State of Alabama and a defendant. It proves no conviction. A civil docket lists plaintiffs, defendants, service events, motions, and judgment work.

Whatever setting or order is newest usually controls. An older hearing stays in the Pickens County court docket as history after a reset. An entry can show that a paper was filed while keeping the image confidential. When you ask for the document, use its title and entry date. A vague request for everything will not do.

Pickens County Docket Codes Explained

Local fee and division material leans on short codes for civil docket bands. SM00 and SM01 mark small-claims fee levels. DV00 points to a civil docket band. These are administrative labels, never a plain-language ruling. Read the caption, court, claim, and event history together.

Setting
A date and purpose assigned for court action.
Reset
A later setting that replaces an earlier one without erasing its history.
Disposition
The court’s entered resolution of a charge, claim, or case.
Certified copy
A copy formally authenticated by the record custodian.

Code labels also shift between criminal, civil, domestic-relations, and small-claims work. Never infer a result from the docket code alone. The official case entry and the filed order control.

Courts Keeping Pickens County Dockets

Alabama’s Unified Judicial System shares administration, yet each Pickens County court docket has its own court and custodian. Circuit Court serves as the general-jurisdiction trial court. District Court handles limited-jurisdiction work. Municipal courts keep city matters, Probate Court keeps its statutory record set, and appeals move into separate dockets as state law requires.

Federal court is a different world entirely. Matters involving Pickens County in federal court fall within the Northern District of Alabama. Those cases run through PACER, not the Circuit Clerk's state-trial docket. A federal civil, criminal, or bankruptcy filing gets its own federal case identity. A matching party name in a state case does not merge the two histories. Search both systems only when the papers or known facts point to separate proceedings.

Appeals add a layer. A District Civil appeal must reach the District Civil clerk within 14 calendar days after judgment. It then proceeds in Circuit Court. Municipal appeals follow their statutory route to Circuit Court where applicable. Docket entries may show the notice of appeal, costs or bond, transmission of the record, receipt, assignment, and a new case number. The original trial history stays on the clerk's docket.

Pickens County Docket Search Limits

An empty remote result does not mean no Pickens County court docket exists. The query may target the wrong court. It may use a spelling that misses the filed caption, skip an older archived file, or need subscriber access. A city payment page shows only enough data to take your money. It is not a full register of filings, settings, and orders.

Juvenile records are restricted. Adoptions stay confidential. Other materials may be sealed or redacted under the Alabama Rules of Court-Record Privacy and Confidentiality. A public docket can note an event while withholding protected content. The clerk explains access procedure. Staff cannot advise what to file or how the law applies.

No result: check the court level, exact name, filing year, and case number before concluding that the case does not exist.

How to Find Court Dates and Settings

Start with the most recent order, reset, or setting. That is the best source when you need a current Pickens County court date. A citation or notice is only the beginning, though. Later docket entries can move the time or the courtroom. There is no verified countywide daily calendar portal. So confirm any unclear trial-court setting with the clerk or the right judge's office before you drive over. The Circuit Judge's directory number is 205-932-3169, and the District Judge's number is 205-367-2076.

Municipal courts run on fixed schedules. Aliceville court meets the second Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. in the rear courtroom at City Hall. Gordo court meets the first Tuesday at 4 p.m. Holidays and conflicts can shift it. One more thing to know: the date printed on a county traffic citation is a trial date. It is not a gentle payment reminder. The full Pickens County court dates page walks through resets, missed settings, and how to confirm a setting.

Pickens County Docket Location Guide

The Pickens County Judicial Center at 20 Phoenix Avenue in Carrollton holds the Circuit and District Court dockets. Head to the clerk's office there. It is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There is a noon to 1:00 p.m. closing. Jurors check in at the lobby, which serves as the public orientation point. Call ahead about parking, devices, or recording rules before a visit. The official Judicial Center and jury information page lays out each court's role. It also covers the lobby check-in point.

The clerk's counter is the place to ask for docket entries and filed papers. A court reporter, not the clerk, creates the verbatim hearing record and prepares any appellate transcript you request.

Public Access to Court Dockets

Alabama's court-record rules do more work here than any broad public-records slogan. Rule 401 gives the public free access to electronic dockets and district or circuit records at the clerk's office during regular hours. Remote subscriber access is also allowed, with mailing postage charged to the requester. Rules effective January 1, 2025 treat access, exemptions, sealing, redaction, and fees as one system.

Key rules:

Alabama Court-Record Rule 401 provides general access, free office viewing, mail terms, and subscriber remote access.

Rules 201 and 202 address records excluded from general public access.

Rules 301 and 303 govern sealing and protection of information within otherwise accessible records.

Alabama Code section 12-15-133 restricts juvenile legal and social records.

The Alabama Open Records Act cannot override court-specific confidentiality rules or a sealing order. A public portion may be released with private data stripped out. Disputed sealing or access questions go to the court alone.

Pickens County Docket Technology

Three system names, three different jobs. SJIS, the State Judicial Information System, holds trial-court data and case status. Alacourt and Just One Look sell subscriber access to trial-court records. AlaFile handles electronic filings and service. Filing a paper through AlaFile does not create a free anonymous county index. No one can browse it that way.

The official Pickens court phone directory lists direct lines for the clerk, the judges, the District Attorney, juvenile probation, the probate office, and related services. Start there when you need the right office.

Pickens County court docket official court phone directory

That directory is the quickest way to learn which office controls a record or a setting. It answers in one call. Court Referral and Adult Probation are services, not separate specialty-court dockets you can search.

Statewide systems reflect years of centralized court technology. Older Pickens County dockets may still need archived indexes or manual retrieval. The courts publish no official online year cutoff or local digitization start date.

Docket Records at the Clerk's Office

Circuit Clerk Keith "Booty" Cox is the elected manager of business and records. He serves the Pickens County Circuit and District Courts. One office supports civil, criminal, domestic-relations, small-claims, traffic, magistrate, warrant, and jury functions. Protected records stay subject to access limits. The clerk can locate an available docket, explain copy steps, quote fees, and certify a copy. Staff cannot give legal advice, though.

The official Circuit Clerk homepage posts the Judicial Center contact block visitors rely on.

A focused request saves everyone time. Name the court and division. Include the case number, the party names, the filing year, and the exact docket entry you need. If a judgment is the goal, give the judgment date. Don't order the whole file. Ask whether a plain copy will do or whether certification is required. Transcripts work differently. The court reporter prepares the verbatim proceeding record, while the clerk supplies the docket and the filed papers.

Pickens County Docket Copy Costs

Under Rule 401, viewing the electronic Circuit or District Court docket at the clerk's office costs nothing. Reading it there is always free. The county pages post no general price for plain copies, certification, or exemplification. Call for a quote and payment instructions first. Keep filing fees and copy fees separate. Never mail cash unless the clerk tells you to.

A solid request names the court and division, case number, caption if known, the filing and entry date you want, plain or certified status, delivery method, contact details, and a maximum authorized cost. Treat these as practical identifiers rather than fields from a county form.

Pickens County Municipal Docket Scale

Municipal filings show why city routing matters. Aliceville Municipal Court logged 397 filings in its FY2021 report, spanning DUI, traffic, and nontraffic categories, with 230 matters disposed. Gordo's FY2023 report lists 1,148 total cases and $176,653.05 collected. The years and formats differ, so do not read the two as a like-for-like trend.

Pickens County Court Dockets by City

Aliceville, Gordo, Reform, Carrollton, and Pickensville are the five largest incorporated places by 2020 population. Where you live does not settle which docket holds your case. A city police citation usually lands in Municipal Court. Felonies take one route. State civil claims, county traffic cases, and probate matters each take their own route through the court system. Before anything else, read the name of the issuing court on your paperwork. The official Aliceville site gives City Hall details. The municipal court sits in the courtroom at the rear of that building.
